How does C-GIS work?

Insulation Principle:

  • SF6 gas molecules have a strong electronegativity, which means they readily adsorb electrons to form negative ions under the influence of an electric field. This reduces the number of free charge carriers in the gas, making it difficult for current to flow, thus achieving insulation. When the applied voltage exceeds the dielectric strength of the gas, the gas will break down and discharge.

Opening and Closing Principles:

  • Opening Principle: When the circuit breaker opens the circuit, an arc forms between the moving and stationary contacts. The high temperature of the arc causes the SF6 gas to decompose and ionize, producing a large amount of plasma. Under the influence of magnetic and electric fields, this plasma rapidly diffuses and cools, leading to recombination and the extinction of the arc, thereby interrupting the circuit.

  • Closing Principle: When closing the circuit, the operating mechanism of the circuit breaker drives the contacts to close rapidly, establishing the electrical connection and allowing the circuit to be energized.
