What is a Polymer Insulator?

Polymer Insulator Definition

The Polymer Insulator consists of two parts, one is a glass fiber reinforced epoxy resin rod-like core, and the other is a windproof canopy made of silicone rubber.

Polymer Insulator Advantages

  • Very lightweight

  • As the composite insulator is flexible the chance of breakage becomes minimum.

  • Lighter in weigh

  • Smaller in size

  • Performance is better

Polymer Insulator Disadvantages

  • Moisture may enter in the core if there is any unwanted gap between core and weather sheds. This may cause the electrical failure of the insulator.

  • Over crimping in end fittings may result in cracks in the core which leads to mechanical failure of polymer insulator.
