What is an Electric Lamp?


Electric Lamp Definition


An electric lamp is defined as a light-emitting component used for lighting and indicating purposes in circuits.

Construction


Electric lamps have a tungsten filament inside a transparent glass cover that glows when current flows through it.


 

Voltage Rating


This rating indicates the voltage needed for proper brightness. Exceeding the voltage can damage the lamp.

  • Miniature Center Contact lamps

  • Small Bayonet Cap lamps

  • Wire Ended lamps


 

Examples of Types


Edison Screw lamps come in MES and LES varieties; Miniature Center Contact lamps have bayonet fittings; Small Bayonet Cap lamps have contacts on the base; Wire Ended lamps have direct contact wires for low-power use.
