What is a 1900 Electrical Box?

A 1900 Electrical Box is defined as a standard 4 inches (4’’) square electrical switch box which is the combination of a gas and electrical box. It is the most commonly used box when a simple switch box is not big enough.

There are usually two types of 1900 Electrical Box are available.

  1. 1900 Electrical Box

  2. 1900 Deep Electrical Box

Twelve 10 AWG (American Wire Gauge) can be installed in a 4-inch square box with a depth of 2\frac{1}{8} inches.

One of the advantages of using these boxes with a patented design is that it allows the cable to easily be removed, and allows the connector to be reused.

1900 Electrical Box Dimensions

The dimensions of both types of 1900 Electrical boxes are given below.

  1. 1900 Electrical Box is a square box with dimensions of 4 * 4 inches (4’’ * 4’’) square and 1\frac{1}{2} inches deep.

  2. 1900 Deep Electrical Box is a square box with dimensions of 4 * 4 inches (4’’ * 4’’) square and 2\frac{1}{8} inches deep.

A 1900 Electrical Box is made up of a welded steel construction with slotted screw heads. The knockout (determined by conduit size) is made on the bottom and each side of the box with a trade size of 1\frac{1}{2} inches. These knockouts are suitable for use without a bonding jumper in circuits above or below 250 volts.

Where Did the Name 1900 Box Come From?

Many people believe that the 1900 Box got its name because it originally was 19 cubic inches.

But in the catalog of 1917 central electric supply, this 1900 electrical box was referred to as the 1900 combination gas and electric boxes (yes I know that sounds a bit awkward, but see the label print out below).

The name 1900 Electrical Box comes from the part number given by the Bossert Company almost a hundred years ago.

Applications of 1900 Electrical Box

Some of the applications of the 1900 Electrical Boxes are discussed below:

  1. 1900 Electrical Box is used for a wide variety of applications where bulky wiring devices or heavy cables require a higher volume box.

  2. 1900 Deep Electrical Box is designed for the installation of flex, MC, MCI, AC, and HCF cables.

  3. These boxes are suitable to use where the flexible armored cable is being used.

  4. These boxes are installed in walls or ceilings for lighting fixtures, switches, or receptacles.

  5. These boxes are suitable for use without a bonding jumper in circuits up to 600 volts.

Classification of Electric Power Distribution Network Systems
Classification of Electric Power Distribution Network Systems
The typical electric power system network is categorized into three main components: generation, transmission, and distribution. Electric power is produced in power plants, which are often located far from load centers. As a result, transmission lines are employed to deliver power over long distances. To minimize transmission losses, high-voltage power is used in transmission lines, and the voltage is reduced at the load center. The distribution system then delivers this power to end-users.Types

Why is the Ground Wire Always Positioned Above the Overhead Power Lines?
Ground Wire in Overhead Transmission LinesThe ground wire (also called earth wire or OPGW) installed above phase lines in overhead transmission lines acts as a key protective and safety component. It provides lightning protection, ground fault defense, and helps prevent electrical system disruptions. In overhead transmission lines, positioning the ground wire above phase lines serves specific safety and performance purposes. Referred to as a "shield wire" or "static wire," this configuration has

What is the Power Angle in a Power Transmission Line?
What is the Power Angle in a Power Transmission Line?
The power angle, denoted by δ, is the phase angle difference between two voltage levels in a power transmission line. Specifically, it represents the angular discrepancy between the sending-end voltage phasor and the receiving-end voltage (or between voltages at two bus points). In simpler terms, it quantifies the phase shift between voltage and current waveforms in the transmission line. Also referred to as the torque angle or load angle, this parameter is critical for two key reasons: it

Permanent Magnet Moving Coil or PMMC Instrument
DefinitionInstruments that utilize a permanent magnet to generate a stationary magnetic field within which a coil moves are known as Permanent Magnet Moving Coil (PMMC) instruments. They operate on the principle that torque is exerted on a moving coil situated in the magnetic field of a permanent magnet. PMMC instruments provide accurate results for direct current (DC) measurements.Construction of PMMC InstrumentThe moving coil and the permanent magnet are the key components of a PMMC instrument
